We’re just 9 minutes from the main gate, right on the main road in Altus, with Starbucks and Chick-fil-A conveniently on your drive to work for those early show times. The only major grocery store in town is within walking distance, and Braum’s is close enough to walk when the ice cream (or late-night burger) calls. Quick in, quick out, everything you need right where you need it.
Altus might be known for training, but it’s also quietly a golfer’s spot. You’ve got two local courses right in town — Westwind Golf Course and Altus Air Force Base Golf Course — perfect for squeezing in a round after flying or on a rare free weekend. And if you’re feeling ambitious, the legendary Fort Sill Golf Course is just 50 minutes away. The term “multi-capable Airmen” has never rung more true — aviator by day, scratch golfer (in your mind) by sunset.
When you need a break from the books and the pattern, Quartz Mountain Nature Park is just 25 minutes away. Hiking, lake views, camping, and sunsets that don’t require a flight plan — it’s the perfect reset when Altus feels small and you need a little wide-open Oklahoma.
Need to get off the grid for a bit? Fort Sill Wildlife Refuge is just 45 minutes away and packed with wide-open views, free-roaming buffalo, hiking trails, and some of the best low-stress scenery around. It’s the perfect escape when you want fresh air, zero radio calls, and a reminder that there’s life beyond the flight line.
Altus may be small, but it shows up strong when it comes to food — especially if you like BBQ. From smoky local joints to quick comfort staples, there’s good food all over town and plenty of spots to refuel after a long day. Hope you’re hungry… and hope you like brisket.
